Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve reading comprehension skills using the Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, Test (PQRST) techniques and to improve student reading learning activities. This research is a Classroom Action Research which was carried out for two cycles. Each cycle includes planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting. The subjects in this study were students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program FKIP Unila 2011/2012 Academic Year class A totaling 37 people. The

results showed that the average value of the reading comprehension test in cycle 1 was 65.63, increasing to 84.28. The percentage of students who completed in cycle 1 was 36.67% and increased to 80%. (2) The learning process of reading cycle 1 is 68.17 increasing to 83.17. The percentage of students active in cycle 1 is 60% and increases to 100%. The conclusion of the study is the application of the PQRST technique can improve reading comprehension and reading learning activities of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program FKIP Unila.
