Abstract

This paper aims to improve the critical reasoning of children in logic. Because, based on research in 2019, literacy competencies of students in Lampung Province are in the low category throughout Indonesia. One of the main causes of the low competence is because of the inability of students to read pictures, tables, diagrams, charts, and posters. Visual literacy can be a means to hone critical reasoning skills. In the low class, visual literacy is proven to be able to develop children's imagination in literature. For low-grade elementary school students the use of picture media originating from the environment around children is able to stimulate children's reasoning power critically. Through black watermelon images children can produce interesting fiction stories.
